ABM is committed to building a strong, engaged, and globally connected membership community, and we are inviting members to play a key role in that work.

The Membership Task Force brings together thoughtful, strategic volunteers to explore how ABM can better support its members and grow its community. This group will examine trends, identify opportunities, and help shape innovative strategies to strengthen membership engagement, retention, and value.

About the Role

The Membership Task Force is a time-limited, strategic group charged with evaluating membership trends and developing recommendations to support a strong and sustainable membership model.

Members work collaboratively to:

  • Analyze membership growth and retention trends
  • Review feedback from current and lapsed members
  • Identify challenges impacting membership decisions
  • Generate ideas to enhance member value and engagement
  • Develop recommendations for the Board of Directors

This work directly supports ABM’s goal of strengthening its role as the professional home for individuals engaged in breastfeeding medicine.

As a member of the task force, you will:

  • Bring your perspective as an ABM member or stakeholder
  • Contribute ideas and insights related to member engagement and value
  • Participate in collaborative discussions and problem-solving
  • Help shape strategies to:
    • Retain current members
    • Re-engage lapsed members
    • Attract new members
  • Support the development of recommendations to inform Board decisions

We are seeking medical doctor members who:

  • Are interested in the future of ABM membership
  • Bring diverse perspectives across clinical, academic, research, and trainee roles
  • Have an interest in strategy, member engagement, or organizational growth
  • Are thoughtful contributors and collaborative problem-solvers

No prior governance experience is required; strong ideas and a willingness to engage are key.

Time Commitment

  • Time-limited task force aligned to a defined project timeline
  • Participation in periodic meetings and collaborative discussions
  • Additional time for review of materials and input on recommendations

The task force will operate on a structured timeline with clear milestones, including analysis, strategy development, and Board reporting.

How This Work Makes an Impact

Your contributions will directly influence:

  • Membership growth and retention strategies
  • How ABM delivers value to its members
  • Future membership models and engagement opportunities

Recommendations developed by the task force will be presented to the Board of Directors for consideration and potential implementation.
