What is the ABM Leadership Academy?

The ABM Leadership Academy is a transformative program designed to equip you with the leadership tools and experience needed to excel in your career. You’ll receive personalized mentoring from leading breastfeeding experts and lead a project that drives innovation and equity in breastfeeding medicine.

As a participant, you will:

  • Enhance your clinical skills and leadership abilities.
  • Improve your effectiveness within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Unlock new career advancement opportunities.
  • Deepen your understanding of volunteer leadership and healthcare equity.
  • Become a strong advocate for breastfeeding medicine in your community.

Who Can Benefit from the Leadership Academy?

The ABM Leadership Academy is open to ABM members who meet the following criteria:

  • Hold an MD, DO, MBBS, DDS, DMD, or an equivalent degree from an accredited medical or osteopathy school. Current medical residents/fellows are also eligible.
  • Are committed to participating in the 10-month program and fulfilling all program requirements.

After graduation,alumsi are expected to:

  • Complete a leadership project and submit a project poster to present at the ABM Annual International Meeting within 2 years of program completion.
  • Serve as an ABM volunteer or consider serving as a mentor and/or faculty for future cohorts of the Leadership Academy.

What Does the Program Involve?

As a member of the Leadership Academy, you’ll be expected to join at least 7 of the 9 scheduled webinar sessions. See the full schedule here.

Additionally, you’ll be required to:

  • Maintain your ABM membership through the completion of the program.
  • Attend both the program’s opening and wrap-up sessions.
  • Attend and actively participate in at least 7 of the 9 required webinar sessions (for a duration of at least 80% of each session).
  • Complete pre-work and post-session reflections for each
  • Engage in monthly Learning Team meetings.
  • Complete a leadership project that contributes to breastfeeding medicine.

Leadership Project: Making a Difference

Every participant will complete a leadership project that applies the skills learned throughout the program. Your project should focus on advancing breastfeeding medicine, addressing health inequities, or driving innovation within the field of breastfeeding medicine.

2025-2026 Session dates

All sessions are held virtually on Zoom. All participants are expected to attend and actively participate in at least 7 of the 9 required webinar sessions (for a duration of at least 80% of each session).

Session Times

Each program session is scheduled from 4:00 – 5:30 pm Eastern Time in the United States. The opening and closing sessions are full-day sessions, scheduled from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Eastern Time in the United States. Convert the session times to your local time zone.

Program Costs and Financial Assistance

Financial assistance is available through partial scholarships. You can apply for a scholarship as part of your application, and you’ll be notified of your award before committing to the program. A completed program application must be submitted to be considered for a partial scholarship. 

Tuition With Scholarship:

  • United States: $1,500 USD
  • Non-US Category 1 & 2 Countries: $750 USD
  • Category 3 Countries: $450 USD
