 The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) recognizes that excellence in breastfeeding and lactation care is strengthened through collaboration across healthcare professions.

The Professional Practice Representative (PPR) Program provides an opportunity for qualified healthcare professionals to contribute their expertise in support of ABM's educational mission. Professional Practice Representatives provide valuable discipline-specific perspectives that help ensure ABM's educational activities are relevant, meaningful, and applicable to a multidisciplinary audience.

Representatives may be invited to review conference programs, webinars, and other educational offerings, provide feedback regarding their applicability to professional practice, and support activities related to continuing education accreditation. Their contributions help strengthen educational opportunities for healthcare professionals involved in breastfeeding and lactation care.

Who Should Apply?

ABM welcomes applications from qualified healthcare professionals whose work relates to breastfeeding medicine, lactation care, maternal-child health, education, research, or related fields.

Eligible applicants may include:

• Nurse Practitioners (NP)
• Registered Nurses (RN)
• Physician Assistants (PA)
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC)
• Registered Dietitians (RD/RDN)
• Speech Language Pathologists (SLP)
• Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM)
• Dentists and Oral Health Professionals
• Public Health Professionals
• Researchers and PhD Professionals whose work relates to breastfeeding medicine
• Other healthcare professionals with relevant advanced credentials and experience

How Representatives Contribute

Professional Practice Representatives may be asked to:

• Review educational programs and learning activities
• Provide feedback regarding relevance to their profession or area of expertise
• Share perspectives from clinical practice, education, research, public health, or professional leadership
• Support ABM's efforts to deliver high-quality educational programs
• Assist with activities that support continuing education accreditation requirements

Participation is generally project-based and can be completed remotely.

ABM strives to build volunteer groups that reflect the diversity of our global membership and welcomes applications from members with a wide range of experiences, perspectives, geographic locations, and professional backgrounds.

Applications will be reviewed following the close of the application period. Selected applicants will be contacted with additional information regarding next steps and opportunities to participate in Professional Practice Representative activities.
