About the Role

The Protocol Committee is responsible for overseeing the development, revision, and approval of ABM’s clinical protocols, position papers, and related educational materials.

Committee members collaborate on a structured, multi-phase process that includes:

• Identifying priority clinical topics
• Recruiting expert authors and reviewers
• Reviewing literature and draft content
• Providing detailed feedback through multiple stages of revision
• Approving final documents for publication

This process ensures the scientific rigor, clinical relevance, and global applicability of ABM’s published guidance.

What You’ll Contribute

As a member of the Protocol Committee, you will:

• Participate in monthly committee meetings and ongoing review activities
• Contribute to the development and revision of clinical protocols and position papers
• Review literature summaries and draft manuscripts
• Provide detailed, constructive feedback on clinical and academic content
• Serve as a Protocol Committee Liaison (PCL) for assigned projects, helping guide development and review processes
• Help identify emerging topics and priorities in breastfeeding medicine

Who Should Apply

We are seeking medical doctor members who:

• Have expertise in clinical practice, research, or education related to breastfeeding and lactation medicine
• Have experience with evidence-based medicine, guideline development, or academic writing
• Are comfortable reviewing and providing feedback on complex clinical content
• Value collaboration and can contribute in a structured, deadline-driven environment
• Are interested in contributing to global clinical guidance and standards

Time Commitment

• Monthly committee meetings (rotating schedule)

• Ongoing review and feedback on assigned protocols or position papers

• Additional time as needed when serving as a liaison or reviewer on specific projects

• Committee term: Three-year term, with the option to serve one additional three-year term for a maximum of six consecutive years
• Terms begin and end on the final day of the ABM Annual International Meeting 

Protocol development follows a structured timeline with multiple phases, requiring sustained engagement throughout each project.
